How to Remove Chewing Gum from Carpet

Carpets are known as high in maintenance because people may walk on the carpet with dirty shoes especially if it is placed in a traffic part of the house. Carpets are not easy to clean, it requires regular cleaning such as vacuum, not just because of the stains but also because of the dust and mites that are everywhere in the house. Seeing a chewing gum on the carpet is quite distracting and it can also cause embarrassment especially when there are visitors around.

If you have a carpet cleaner at home, you don’t have to worry because you can easily clean it without hassles because all you have to do is to just let the equipment do its job. The first thing that you should do is put on some pieces of ice cubes into a plastic freezer bag and make sure that it is tightly sealed. Once the bag is ready, you can now place it straight onto the chewing gum on your carpet. Let it stay there for about 1-20 minutes just to make the gum harder.

Once you feel that the gum is hard enough, scrape it using a spatula. You need to chip away the gum until it turned into little pieces.

You can use a vacuum cleaner to clean the broken gum on your carpet so it will not be scattered on the floor. Just continue chipping the gum until it is gone and not visible on the carpet anymore.

If there are still traces of the gum, you can wet a rag with a solvent and blot the rug on the carpet with gum traces.

Another thing that you can do is to put warm water with a tsp. of dish soap in a pale or bowl but make sure that you will only use mild dish soap that won’t cause a harsh effect on your carpet. Blot a rug using the mixture to remove the traces of gum on your carpet.

Removing chewing gum from the floor is not a hard task. With simple products and ideas, you can clean your carpet and make it look new again like it was before.
